Let Armchair BEA BEGIN!

For those of you that are new to my blog, welcome! I’m not a strict book blogger; I’m a writer with a wide variety of topics including some very bad poetry. *cough, cough* Sorry ’bout that. But hey, you only get better through practice, right? Books are my passion, though, and so I spend a good deal of time reading them and reviewing them here.

For my friends who read this and are wondering, “What the heck is Armchair BEA?” It’s the Book Expo of America from the comfort of our own homes. It’s an internet event that happens yearly at the same time that the real BEA is happening in New York. I’ve stalked Armchair BEA for a couple years now and have finally committed to joining this week. And I’m SO EXCITED!

So, for my intro post, here we go:

1. I’m Nicole, aka booklovingfool. This is my fourth year blogging and I basically love it. I first started blogging to get my writing into the universe, and it helped me develop my voice on the page, so I keep at it to improve. Now, as previously mentioned, I review books and the occasional movie. I still write fiction (if you care to read any of it, it’s under “Writings” in the bar above), but I write about everyday things too. I graduated from college last year and don’t have a grown-up job yet. I work at a coffee shop. I identify with characters like Jo March from Little Women and Anne from Anne of Green Gables, so if you want to know who I am, just sort of meld those two together, and you’ll have a pretty accurate picture.

4. I am currently listening to The History of the World in Six Glasses by Tom Standage. I love it. My favorite book that I’ve read this year has been A Moveable Feast by Ernest Hemingway. It shocked me because I hadn’t thought that I liked Ernest Hemingway. But I do, and this book was so inspirational and made me want to go to Paris ASAP.

7. My favorite post that I’ve written is…this one about a morning I had in Chicago when I lived there. It’s short and makes me happy. I like the little blurbs I write about life because, for the most part, they are lovely to read later. And they don’t typically make me cry, like the nostalgic ones do.

8. Um…I’d eat dinner with Jane Austen, Ernest Hemingway, Gandalf, or Catherine Moreland. Mr. Hemingway has become a recent and somewhat startling obsession of mine, but the others were kind of always on my list. If I could, I’d have dinner with all four. But I’d probably pick Jane Austen, if I could only pick one. If only so I could gain her cleverness via osmosis.

9. I’m desperate to visit Strand’s Bookstore in New York. But I really want to visit Jane Austen’s house and the pub in which the Inklings held their meetings. So those are my top three literary locations.
